Justin Trudeau notes Canadian anxiety regarding US travel

Speaking at the 26th World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Valletta, Malta, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that many Canadians are now anxious about traveling to the United States.

Trudeau noted that while the Canada-US border has historically been one of the world’s longest demilitarized borders, travelers are increasingly concerned about tightened border controls and the potential for arrest. He attributed this shift to the perceived lack of hospitality and respect from the US administration, specifically citing comments made by Donald Trump regarding Canada’s status as a country.

Trudeau emphasized that a destination's reputation depends heavily on how welcomed visitors feel, suggesting that the current diplomatic climate is impacting the ease of cross-border travel despite deep family, personal, and commercial ties between the two nations.
