Justin Trudeau's luxury trips with Katy Perry face scrutiny over security costs

Reports from Québec suggest that Canadian taxpayers may be funding the security costs for former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during luxury travels with pop star Katy Perry. Following the confirmation of their relationship in December 2025, Trudeau has been seen in locations including Greece, Italy, Switzerland, and at Coachella.

According to Le Journal de Montréal, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers have accompanied Trudeau on portions of his European travels. While Trudeau is entitled to a protective detail as a former leader, the RCMP has declined to disclose the number of officers deployed or the total costs, citing 'the evolving threat environment and operational and security considerations.'

While the RCMP has not explicitly confirmed if taxpayers are covering all expenses, sources indicate Trudeau typically requires three to four federal officers. If publicly funded, the state would be responsible for salaries, overtime, flights, meals, and lodging for the security detail during these trips.
