Justin Verlander nears potential final start with Detroit Tigers
Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is working toward a potential final appearance before his retirement at the end of the season. After dealing with left hip inflammation and a left hamstring strain, Verlander participated in a mound session on September 12.
During the session, hitters stood in the box without swinging to provide a visual for the 43-year-old pitcher. Reports indicate he reached 93 mph on his fastball during the session. If his recovery continues positively, Verlander could begin a rehab assignment with the goal of pitching at least once more for Detroit before his career concludes.
