Justinianus Bridge reopens in Sakarya after eight-year restoration

The historic Justinianus Bridge in Sakarya has reopened to the public following an eight-year restoration process. The 1,500-year-old structure, which dates back to the Byzantine era, measures 429 meters in length.

Included on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, the bridge is considered to hold historical significance comparable to the Hagia Sophia Mosque. The restoration project included strengthening the structure's load-bearing elements and implementing environmental improvements, such as new visitor paths, lighting, and rest areas.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu performed the official opening. Local residents and visitors have expressed satisfaction with the completed works, particularly noting the enhanced night ambiance provided by the new lighting systems.
