Jutep archives investigations into Rodrigo Arim and Lavalleja nepotism

The Transparency and Public Ethics Board (Jutep) in Uruguay has closed several investigations following recent resolutions. The board's majority, led by President Ana Ferraris and Vice President Alfredo Asti, decided to archive a complaint regarding the asset and income declarations of Rodrigo Arim, the director of the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP).

While the board's legal advisory suggested the archive was necessary due to procedural issues regarding the unauthorized access of reserved data, the advisory noted that certain inconsistencies in asset valuations and property income reporting were not merely clerical errors and could have justified a formal investigation.

Additionally, the Jutep found that Alejandra Koch, former director of the National Port Administration (ANP), committed a violation by failing to recuse herself when her husband was assigned specific functions.

The board also archived a complaint regarding alleged nepotism within the Lavalleja Intendency. The resolution concluded that no prohibited kinship or dependency relationships were proven under current law. However, board member Luis Calabria expressed reservations, noting that the officials in question were under the direct dependency of the interim mayor during the periods in question.
