Grêmio signs Cape Verde striker Jovane Cabral

Grêmio confirmed the signing of 28‑year‑old winger/attacking midfielder Jovane Cabral, who featured for Cape Verde at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Coach Luís Castro said Cabral “played in the World Cup, can operate on the left and centrally, and will join a group committed to the season’s objectives”. The player arrived in Porto Alegre on a free transfer after his contract with Portugal’s Estrela Amadora expired. He signed a contract for a year and a half, with the agreement that he can be officially registered once the FIFA transfer window opens on 20 October.

Cabral’s career includes spells at Sporting (youth), Lazio, Salernitana, Olympiacos and Estrela Amadora, where he earned €600 000 per season (about R$3.5 million). The Grêmio board highlighted his World Cup exposure – he started the group‑stage draw with Spain and the round‑of‑16 loss to Argentina – as a key factor in the acquisition. The signing was announced after Grêmio’s 3‑1 friendly win over Cruzeiro at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília.

The club expects Cabral to add pace and versatility to its attack as it prepares for the upcoming Série A fixtures.
