Juventus fans face sanctions after disrespecting Sandro Mazzola tribute

During a Serie A match between Juventus and Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium, a group of Juventus ultras caused significant controversy by turning their backs during a minute of silence held to honor the late Inter Milan legend Sandro Mazzola. Instead of observing the moment of reflection, the fans in the Curva Sud reportedly chanted for Juventus figures such as Gaetano Scirea, Gianni Agnelli, and Andrea Fortunato.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from football officials, including Juventus itself, which issued a statement saying, “There is no rivalry that can justify a lack of respect.” Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa also criticized the behavior, calling it an “outrage to memory.”

Juventus now faces potential disciplinary action from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. Possible sanctions under the Code of Sports Justice include fines of up to 50,000 euros or the closure of the Curva Sud section for upcoming matches, such as the game against Lazio on October 18. Meanwhile, the football community continues to mourn Mazzola, whose funeral was held at the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio in Milan.
