Juventus removes Pelé bust from Rua Javari stadium
The Juventus football club has permanently removed a bronze bust of Pelé from the entrance of its stadium on Rua Javari in Mooca, São Paulo. The removal is part of ongoing renovations led by the club's SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol) as the team prepares to return to the state's first division after nearly two decades.
Inaugurated in August 2006, the monument honored the legendary player for scoring what he considered the most beautiful goal of his career at that specific stadium during a 1959 Campeonato Paulista match. The bronze piece will be transferred to the headquarters of the Juventus social club.
The decision to move the bust has received support from certain segments of the club's fanbase, some of whom associated the monument with a period of poor performance that saw the team relegated to lower divisions in the years following its installation.
