JW Marriott opens first global all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica
JW Marriott has officially opened the JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, marking the brand’s first all-inclusive resort globally. Located on the northern Pacific coast at Playa El Jobo, the development represents a strategic shift for the hospitality company into the all-inclusive luxury market.
The resort focuses on an “all-immersive” experience designed around wellness, mindfulness, and local cultural connections. Key features include the brand’s first next-generation Griffin Club, a Mindfulness House wellness sanctuary, and 15 culinary venues. The design incorporates native architectural elements and is inspired by regional indigenous traditions.
Legal experts note that while the project is a major milestone for Costa Rican high-end tourism, it highlights the importance of navigating the country’s complex zoning, environmental regulations, and maritime-terrestrial zone laws for international investors.
