JYP Entertainment cancels new Seoul headquarters project

JYP Entertainment has officially decided to cancel its project to build a new integrated headquarters in Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The company had previously purchased the land for approximately 75.5 billion won in October 2023.

The cancellation follows a dispute regarding the land use of an adjacent 13,261-square-meter plot. Originally designated as a neighborhood park, the land was rezoned for commercial and residential use, allowing for buildings up to 18 or 19 stories. JYP expressed concerns that high-rise developments on this adjacent lot would compromise the privacy and security of its artists, undermining the original architectural design by Professor Yu Hyeon-jun.

While the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government maintained that the rezoning was a legal measure to secure funds for school facilities, JYP concluded that the fundamental environment required for its project had changed. Following the decision, JYP announced it will instead acquire two properties near its current headquarters in Seongnae-dong for 96 billion won to expand its workspace.
