JYSK to take direct control of Balkan markets
Danish retail chain JYSK has reached an agreement to end its franchise model in Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia. The company will take over all operations and 25 existing stores from franchise partner Fatmir Zymberi.
The transition, which includes the takeover of local teams and assets, is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, pending regulatory approval. By moving to a company-owned model, JYSK aims to gain direct control over investments, store development, and expansion efforts in these markets.
JYSK has maintained a presence in the region for years, operating in Kosovo since 2004, North Macedonia since 2008, and Albania since 2015. CEO Rami Jensen stated that the move is intended to capitalize on the significant growth potential in these countries through direct investment in stores and employees.
