Jyväskylä WRC2 Rally sees tight battle as rain threatens conditions

Finnish driver Roope Korhonen headed into the WRC2 class of the Jyväskylä World Rally Championship with a close fight for the lead. He was chasing Toyota team manager Jari‑Matti Latvala, with fellow competitors Teemu Suninen, Mikko Heikkilä and Estonia’s Robert Virves within a few seconds. Korhonen described the morning stage as “tight, with no chance to give up any seconds,” while Suninen warned that “the battle at the front is relentless.”

Meteorologists for Toyota warned that heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for Friday and Saturday could dramatically affect the rally. Kristian Roine warned that “in the worst case the whole rally could be split because of the weather,” noting that slippery surfaces and reduced visibility could change lap times by tens of seconds. The team will monitor conditions closely, adjusting tyre choices and car setups minutes before each start.
