K-beauty derma cosmetics expand into mainstream retail markets

Derma cosmetics are emerging as a major segment within the K-beauty industry, shifting from specialized pharmacy and dermatological use to mainstream retail channels. Major cosmetic manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies are increasingly collaborating to launch high-functionality products for general consumers.

CJ Olive Young has expanded its presence by operating ‘Advanced Derma’ sections in approximately 650 stores nationwide, featuring products from pharmaceutical companies such as Dong-A, Dongkook, and Daewoong. Since launching this category in April, sales increased by 48% in June, with foreign tourists accounting for 70% of sales during the April-June period.

Amorepacific is focusing on its brand Aestura, which transitioned from hospital-exclusive use to mass-market availability through Olive Young. The brand has expanded into 19 countries, including Japan, Vietnam, and the US. Similarly, LG Household & Health Care is strengthening its derma portfolio with brands like Physiogel, CNP, and Dominas.

The global derma cosmetics market is projected to grow significantly, with estimates suggesting it could reach approximately $117 billion by 2034.
