K-beauty trends expand into scalp care and specialized skincare

The popularity of South Korean cosmetics, known as K-beauty, is expanding its influence by introducing new trends such as ‘scalp care.’ This movement treats the scalp as an extension of facial skincare, utilizing tonics, ampoules, and serums containing ingredients like niacinamide and centella asiatica to manage oiliness, hydration, and flaking.

While K-beauty products like serums and essences have gained significant traction on social media, dermatologists advise caution. Experts note that products trending online may not be suitable for all skin types, particularly for those with sensitive skin. Ingredients such as retinol, fragrances, or certain preservatives can cause irritation or allergic reactions if used indiscriminately. Furthermore, while scalp care routines can promote preventative health, specialists emphasize that cosmetic products are not a substitute for medical treatments in cases of severe hair loss.
