K Brew Bakery and Jaarsma Bakery highlight regional culinary traditions

K Brew Bakery & Market has opened a new location at 1134 N. Broadway. The facility serves as a bakery, market, and neighborhood space, offering items such as sesame bagels, focaccia, muffins, Danishes, and various sandwiches. The market section stocks pantry staples, cookware, fresh pasta, and local products like Benton’s bacon and East Fork ceramics.

Culinary Director Matt Cowen noted that the new space significantly expands operations from the previous 450-square-foot production room used for all K Brew locations. The bakery is open to walk-ins Wednesday through Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In Pella, Iowa, Jaarsma Bakery continues to operate as a local landmark, utilizing family recipes dating back to 1898. The bakery specializes in Dutch-style pastries, including Dutch letters, banket, puff pillows, and windmill cookies. The establishment also functions as a gift shop featuring imported candy and Dutch souvenirs.
