K C Venugopal accuses CEC, PM Modi, and Amit Shah of conspiracy to undermine democracy

AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal has accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah of a “criminal conspiracy” to sabotage Indian democracy. Venugopal alleged that the Election Commission has been transformed into a tool for the BJP, specifically citing issues with the deletion of voters from electoral rolls in states such as Bihar, Haryana, and Maharashtra.

The allegations follow reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections regarding voter roll revisions under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Venugopal asserted that Rahul Gandhi’s previous claims regarding these deletions have been “established” by the objections raised by these two commissioners.

In response to criticisms from Union Minister JP Nadda, Venugopal accused the government of attempting to “whitewash” the CEC’s actions. The Congress party has announced plans for nationwide protests against the poll panel and will hold a working committee meeting on September 29 to determine its next course of action. While the opposition claims the CEC bypassed observations from other commissioners, Election Commission officials have maintained that the body was unanimous in its decisions regarding the pan-India voter roll revision.
