K-Electric has announced a quarterly network review resulting in several areas gaining loadshedding exemption. According to the utility, timely bill payments and reduced electricity theft allowed various localities in Korangi, Azizabad, and parts of SITE and Surjani Town to transition from ‘medium loss’ to ‘low loss’ categories. Approximately 70% of K-Electric’s service territory, covering over 2,100 feeders, remains exempt from scheduled power cuts.

However, reports indicate a deepening power crisis in Karachi, with K-Electric reportedly extending loadshedding to more than 150 feeders that were previously exempt. In some neighborhoods, power interruptions have stretched to between 12 and 15 hours, while routine outages in other areas have increased from nine to 12 hours daily.

Critics have raised concerns that the revised management schedule places low-loss areas into the same category as high-loss localities, potentially penalizing consumers who pay their bills regularly. Affected localities reportedly include North Karachi, Landhi, DHA, Clifton, PECHS, Liaquatabad, Orangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and North Nazimabad.
