K League orders emergency stadium safety inspections after Pohang injury

The Korea Professional Football Federation has ordered emergency safety inspections of all K League stadiums following an incident at Pohang Steel Yard. On May 8, during a match between Pohang Steelers and Ulsan HD, a piece of concrete fell from the ceiling of the away table seats, injuring a spectator's hand.

Pohang Steel Yard, which was completed in 1990, is undergoing sequential inspections and repairs due to aging facilities. The club stated that the incident occurred while work to address aging concrete was already in progress. The injured spectator declined hospital transport and chose to continue watching the match from a standing position away from the affected area.

The Federation has issued official documents to all K League clubs, requiring them to complete safety inspections of their stadium facilities before their next scheduled home matches. The goal is to identify any structural issues that could affect spectator safety and to request immediate repairs or safety measures where necessary.
