K-MEDI Hub advances cognitive research and AI drug discovery
K-MEDI Hub (Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Foundation) has announced research findings suggesting that evening primrose sprouts may improve cognitive function. Conducted in collaboration with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Forest Environment Research Institute, the study demonstrated that ethanol extracts from the sprouts increased antioxidant activity and reduced inflammatory markers in cell experiments.
In animal models using 5xFAD transgenic mice mimicking Alzheimer's disease, oral administration of the extract for 14 weeks resulted in improved learning and memory capabilities. The research also noted a reduction in amyloid-beta accumulation in the brain. These findings have been published in the international journals ‘Food Science and Biotechnology’ and ‘Applied Biological Chemistry’.
Separately, K-MEDI Hub held a performance exchange meeting for its AI-driven innovative drug discovery project. The five-year initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, aims to advance AI drug discovery platforms and integrate them into practical research. The meeting focused on sharing research achievements, discussing future strategies for the AI drug discovery ecosystem, and fostering collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutes.
