K-pop agencies decline Grammy nominations for new Asian pop category

Several major K-pop agencies and artists have declined to submit their works for the Grammy Awards' new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category. This decision follows concerns that the specific category might isolate Asian music from mainstream pop categories rather than integrating it.

BTS was among the first to voice these concerns, announcing they would not submit their work for the 2027 awards. The group expressed a desire for their music to be “heard and loved for what it is” without being categorized by region or language. Stray Kids and their agency, JYP Entertainment, also opted not to submit works before the August deadline. Other reports suggest that groups such as TWICE and aespa, along with artists from YG Entertainment, have also declined to participate in the new category.

While the Recording Academy has decided to proceed with the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category following discussions with industry professionals, music observers note that the absence of major global stars could impact public perception and the credibility of the new award.
