K. T. Rama Rao demands resignation of Chief Election Commissioner
K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), Executive President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The demand follows allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
KTR stated on social media that no individual is greater than the institution or the Indian Constitution, emphasizing that the voting rights of 140 crore citizens must be protected. He has called upon the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and conduct an independent investigation overseen by a sitting Supreme Court judge to ensure impartiality.
BRS Deputy Leader T. Harish Rao also supported the demand, asserting that the Election Commission should serve as the backbone of democracy rather than a means to protect those in power. The BRS has planned a protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Hyderabad on October 10 to further press for the CEC's resignation.
