K130 Village residents dismantled 130 homes in one night to open military supply route

In August 1968, residents of K130 Village (formerly Tan Tien and Minh Tien villages) in Can Loc, Ha Tinh Province, dismantled 130 homes in a single night to create a transport route for military vehicles.

During the Vietnam War, intense aerial bombardment caused congestion on Highway 1A. To ensure hundreds of vehicles could bypass the blocked route via ferries, local residents adopted the slogan “Xe chưa qua nhà không tiếc” (Not regretting the loss of homes until the vehicles have passed). This collective action allowed for the establishment of a secondary route to transport supplies to the front lines.

Local resident Pham Tien Dong, who served on the Quang Tri front, recounted how his own family home was dismantled twice: once to evacuate from bombings and once to make way for the military road.
