K92 Mining projected to exceed PGK 1 billion in tax contributions for 2026
K92 Mining Limited, operator of the Kainantu Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands Province, has paid its third and final scheduled corporate tax installment of 2026, totaling PGK 230.9 million. This payment brings the company’s total tax and royalty contributions for the year to PGK 991 million, with projections suggesting the figure will surpass PGK 1 billion by year-end.
Prime Minister James Marape praised the company as an efficient, low-cost mid-tier mining operation that provides significant economic returns to the state. The total contributions include corporate income tax, dividend withholding tax, royalties, and salaries and wages tax.
Since commercial production began in 2018, K92 has surpassed one million gold equivalent ounces produced. The company has invested over PGK 3.4 billion in expansion and exploration, generating more than PGK 8.7 billion in export value. Beyond direct taxes, K92 has supported local infrastructure and community programs, including a PGK 90 million hospital project in Kainantu scheduled to begin in 2027 and disaster relief assistance for various provincial governments.
