Kaş commemorates WWI heroes during Republic Day march
In the Kaş district of Antalya, the ‘Respect to the Republic March on the Path of Ancestors’ was held to mark the 103rd anniversary of the Republic. Coordinated by the Antalya Governor's Office and the Kaş District Governor's Office, the event honored World War I heroes, specifically Artillery Captain Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker and his comrades.
The march began in the Gelibolu area of Bayındır Neighborhood. During the ceremony, Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin highlighted the sacrifices made to secure independence, noting that the Republic was won through struggle and martyrdom. He specifically recalled the feats of Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker, whose artillery units defended the coast against enemy warships by transporting mountain guns through difficult terrain.
Governor Şahin also emphasized the historical significance of leaders like Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and other commanders from the World War I and War of Independence eras, urging the younger generation to study these military successes and strive for progress through science and hard work.
