KA Putri Deli Train Collision in Serdang Bedagai Leaves Driver Dead
On 2 August 2026, a dump truck without a licence plate entered an unprotected level crossing at Pasiran, Simpang Tiga Pekan, Perbaungan, Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra. The truck, driven by 56‑year‑old Busito, collided with the KA Putri Deli passenger train travelling from Medan toward Tanjung Balai. The impact tore the truck’s left side, killing the driver at Melati Hospital and injuring a 21‑year‑old passenger, Viona Siahaan, who suffered burns from hot water splashed during the crash. Train driver Roni Setiawan and the locomotive crew escaped unharmed, though the locomotive and baggage car briefly derailed, disrupting service.
Police from the Serdang Bedagai precinct, together with traffic‑police units and PT Jasa Raharja, secured the scene, conducted investigations, and began victim assistance. The incident highlighted safety gaps at railway crossings lacking barriers.
