Kaarst, Germany and Wolfsberg, Austria revamp playgrounds with child input

The city of Kaarst in Germany invited children and families to share ideas for a new playground at Topasweg. Around 20 youngsters marked preferred equipment such as swings, slides and climbing frames, and adults emphasized preserving existing trees and providing age‑appropriate play areas. The collected suggestions will guide the next planning phase, though a construction start date has not yet been set.

In the Austrian town of Wolfsberg, the municipal works department built a new sandpit with an integrated sunshade after a TÜV inspection flagged the previous structure. Mayor Alexander Radl allocated about €8,000 for the upgrade, and workers installed roughly 5,000 kg of fresh sand. The shade structure aims to protect children from strong summer sun and reflects the council’s quick response to community requests.
