Kabul markets face rising fuel costs and currency fluctuations
Economic indicators in Kabul show significant fluctuations in both currency values and essential commodity prices. In the Saraye Shahzada market, the Afghan Afghani has demonstrated growth, increasing by approximately 5.54% over the past week and over 19.13% over the last six months. Current exchange rates place the US Dollar at approximately 64.81 to 64.91 Afghani, while the Euro trades between 75.07 and 75.17 Afghani.
Simultaneously, the cost of fuel in Kabul markets has risen sharply. Petrol prices increased by 7 Afghani per liter in a single week, rising from 80 to 87 Afghani. Over a two-month period, petrol costs have surged by 31.8%, while diesel prices have risen by 21.5%. Additionally, liquefied gas prices have increased by 10 Afghani per kilogram over two months, representing an 18% rise. Local drivers and residents have expressed concerns regarding these rising costs and have called for increased government oversight of importers and market prices.
