Kadin Law revisions underway in Indonesia

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission VI has begun discussions on a special working group to revise the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Law. The current legislation, Law Number 1 of 1987, is nearly four decades old and requires updates to address modern economic challenges.

Kadin Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie emphasized that new regulations are necessary to strengthen the organization's role amidst global economic pressures, including geopolitical instability, supply chain disruptions, and technological shifts. He noted that the business sector is currently facing significant headwinds, such as the weakening Rupiah and contractions in the manufacturing sector.

Legislators and academics are collaborating to draft an academic paper for the proposed bill. The goal is to ensure Kadin can effectively respond to globalization, digitalization, and artificial intelligence, while serving as a more robust bridge between the government and the business community to drive economic growth.
