Kadugli artillery shelling kills mother and three children

Artillery shelling in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state, has resulted in the deaths of a mother and her three children. The Sudan Doctors Network reported the attack, attributing the shelling to the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/North (SPLM/N), which is operating in cooperation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Sudan Doctors Network condemned the strike as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law” that prohibits the targeting of residential areas and civilians. The organization described the incident as a condemnable crime and called upon the United Nations and human rights bodies to document these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

The SPLM/N, led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, has been in conflict with the Sudanese government since 2011, seeking autonomy for the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions. In February 2025, the group signed an agreement in Nairobi with the RSF and other political forces to form a parallel government. The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced approximately 13 million people since April 2023.
