Kaduna Catholic Church disavows unauthorized political meeting

The Kaduna Catholic Archdiocesan Laity Council has formally dissociated the Catholic Church from an unauthorized political meeting involving members of the Zumuntan Mata Katolika and former Senator Shehu Sani.

In a statement, the council clarified that neither the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna nor its ecclesiastical authority authorized, sponsored, or endorsed the September 6 engagement. The meeting involved Sani, who is a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District ticket in the 2027 elections.

The council emphasized that while individual Catholic faithful are free to participate in politics in their personal capacities, no group has the authority to use the collective name, identity, or platform of a Church organization for partisan purposes without permission. The participants involved have reportedly expressed regret and apologized for the embarrassment caused to the Archbishop and religious leaders.
