Kaduna Governor fulfills 30-year promise to Olympic gold medalists
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has fulfilled a 30-year-old promise made to the 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medalists. The athletes, members of Nigeria’s ‘Dream Team’, have been awarded plots of land.
During an inspection of the ongoing Ahmadu Bello Stadium project, former professional footballer Daniel Amokachi expressed gratitude, noting that previous federal and state government promises regarding the 1996 victory had remained unredeemed for decades. In addition to the land grants for Amokachi, Garba Lawal, and Emmanuel Babayaro, the Governor has directed that streets be named after the athletes to honor their legacy.
Garba Lawal described the Ahmadu Bello Stadium as a world-class facility that will meet FIFA standards upon completion, with an expected unveiling in November. Emmanuel Babayaro added that the project is revitalizing the football community in Kaduna State.
