Kaduna Monarch Sues Keystone Bank Over Unauthorized N11m Loan
His Royal Highness Yakubu Iliya Sauri, the paramount ruler of Kurama Chiefdom in Kaduna State, Nigeria, has filed a lawsuit in the High Court of Kaduna State (sitting in Saminaka) against Keystone Bank Limited. The monarch alleges that the bank created an unauthorized overdraft/loan of ₦11,030,341.49 on his account without his knowledge, consent, or application. He claims the bank later attributed the transaction to a “system glitch,” but maintains that the debit was recorded with no corresponding credit, damaging his reputation and causing psychological distress and financial loss.
Sauri is seeking ₦100 million in damages, a public apology, a declaration that the loan is unlawful, reversal of the disputed amount, and a forensic investigation of the bank’s practices. He also requests injunctive relief to prevent further unauthorized transactions. The case highlights a dispute over banking practices and alleged breach of contract within Nigeria’s financial sector.
