Kaduna State approves N300m for KASU lecturers
The Kaduna State Government has approved the immediate payment of N300 million as Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) to staff at Kaduna State University (KASU). This decision follows a two-week ultimatum issued by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at the university regarding welfare and working conditions.
To address outstanding demands, the state has formed a nine-member committee to negotiate with several unions, including ASUU, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non-Academic Staff Union, and the National Association of Academic Technologists.
According to Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Meyere, the N300 million payment is part of an ongoing effort by Governor Uba Sani’s administration to clear a backlog of over N800 million in entitlements dating back to 2016. The government has also established a N50 million monthly standing order to systematically settle arrears and staff-related claims, having previously settled withheld salaries and supervision allowances.
