Kaduna Governor Uba Sani reports surge in Nigeria tax revenue

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has highlighted significant growth in Nigeria’s tax revenue, noting that national collections reached approximately ₦21.6 trillion in the first half of 2026. This represents a 49 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Sani attributed this upward trend to tax reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu, which aimed to modernize Nigeria’s revenue architecture and reduce fragmentation.

During the 160th meeting of the Joint Revenue Board (JRB) in Kaduna, officials discussed the progress of these reforms. The JRB reported that the new system has reduced the burden on low-income earners and micro-scale businesses by eliminating multiple nuisance taxes and consolidating over 50 collection items into nine sub-heads.

In Kaduna specifically, Governor Sani noted that the state’s monthly internally generated revenue has risen from approximately ₦4 billion to ₦10 billion due to administrative reforms. To further strengthen the system, the state is partnering with the Office of the Tax Ombud to protect taxpayer rights, provide mediation for disputes, and foster a more predictable environment for investors. Additionally, the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has conducted training for local government revenue officers to improve compliance and administration across the state’s 23 local government areas.
