Kaduna State strengthens nutrition financing and maternal health initiatives

The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening nutrition financing and multisectoral coordination. During the Women in Power Conference 2026, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe highlighted significant progress in health interventions, noting that 30,089 children were treated for severe acute malnutrition in 2025. The state also reported 82 per cent vitamin A supplementation coverage and 79 per cent coverage for mid-upper arm circumference screening during recent health weeks.

To consolidate these gains, the state has developed the 2026–2030 Food and Nutrition Policy and Strategic Plan, which aims to integrate nutrition into official planning and budgeting.

Complementing these policy efforts, the Faith and Cultural Champions (FCC) Project, implemented by the Centre for Communication and Social Impact in partnership with the Ummulkhairi Foundation, is working to improve community understanding of maternal health. Beneficiaries of the project reported increased awareness regarding childbirth spacing, the importance of timely medical care during pregnancy, and the necessity of seeking professional healthcare to manage pregnancy-related complications.
