Kaduna State targets zero malnutrition through grassroots investment
The Kaduna State Government has announced a target of zero malnutrition through increased investment in nutrition interventions and strengthened grassroots mobilization. During a high-level stakeholders’ engagement held in Kaduna, officials emphasized that community ownership and local-level activities are essential for success, as families make critical decisions regarding food, childcare, and healthcare.
Mukhtar Ahmed, Commissioner for the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission, noted that proper nutrition is vital for children’s survival, productivity, and the overall development of the state. He called on the spouses of local government chairmen to advocate for exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, maternal nutrition, and the early identification of malnutrition.
To support these efforts, the Kaduna State Head of Service, Jummai Bako, encouraged women leaders to utilize their close ties with communities to drive advocacy. Additionally, Jessy David, Chairman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Food and Nutrition Security, pledged continued legislative support to combat malnutrition and improve the wellbeing of women and children.
