Kaduna State University students engage in practical theatre and film training

Theatre arts students at Kaduna State University (KASU) are engaging in practical industry training through film festivals and stage performances. During the 9th Kaduna International Film Festival, veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru advised students to master characterisation, warning that relying on luck rather than intentional skill prevents professional growth.

Israel Audu, Director-General of the festival, noted that hosting the event at KASU aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical industry experience. The festival, described as the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria, provides a platform for filmmakers to secure distribution deals and build professional networks.

In a separate practical application, KASU students staged a performance of Senator Shehu Sani’s play, ‘The Village and the Vigilante’. The production explored themes of community security and social responsibility, serving as a demonstration of the students' ability to interpret contemporary Nigerian social issues through stagecraft.
