KAE Maroussi challenges Greek basketball refereeing standards

KAE Maroussi has issued a formal letter to ESAKE, the Greek Minister of Sports, the General Secretary of Sports, the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), and the Professional Sports Committee, expressing deep concern regarding the state of Greek basketball refereeing.

The club cited recent events involving matches of Promitheas Patras, specifically a recent game between Doxa Lefkada and Promitheas, as raising serious questions about the reliability of officiating decisions and the appointment process. Maroussi noted that two referees from that match had also officiated Maroussi’s game against Mykonos just one week prior, a match that had already drawn significant complaints regarding officiating quality.

While stating they are not assigning blame without proof, Maroussi is demanding transparency and accountability. The club is requesting clear, documented, and public answers regarding the specific criteria used for referee appointments, how officiating performances are evaluated, and what mechanisms exist to ensure independence and prevent conflicts of interest within the league.
