Kafuka African Film Festival returns to Praia in 2026

The second edition of the Kafuka African Film Festival (KAFF) is scheduled to take place in Praia, Cabo Verde, from October 15 to 18, 2026. Promoted by Kuletivu Nhanha, the festival will focus on celebrating the thought and legacy of Amílcar Cabral, featuring films that explore African identities, societies, and struggles.

The event aims to strengthen the African cinematic ecosystem by providing a platform for national production and fostering dialogue between the continent and its various diasporas. The programming will include feature films, short films, documentaries, and animations, alongside workshops, masterclasses, and sessions for children known as Kafukinha.

In conjunction with the festival, the FilmLab Cabo Verde 2026 initiative will run from October 6 to 16. This capacity-building program will host six young filmmakers from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) and the Cabo Verdean diaspora. The program, organized by the Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique, focuses on professional development in areas such as distribution, financing, and project sustainability.
