Kagawa Prefecture to host Sanuki Lion Dance Kingdom 2026

The Sanuki Lion Dance Kingdom 2026 festival is scheduled to take place in Kagawa Prefecture, bringing together diverse regional lion dance traditions. The event will be held over two days around Takamatsu Port, featuring an ‘Eve Festival’ on October 31 and a ‘Main Festival’ on November 1.

Kagawa is home to approximately 800 lion dance groups. While all belong to the Sanuki Lion Dance tradition, each region maintains unique styles, props, and dance techniques. The festival invites participation from both performers and those interested in exhibiting lion dance tools, aiming to preserve and pass down these regional folk traditions to future generations.
