Kagi to open-source Orion browser for Linux and Windows

Kagi has announced it is ending direct development of its Orion web browser for Linux and Windows. To allow the community to continue development, the company will open-source the code for both platforms within 30 days.

This decision allows Kagi's small development team to focus resources on improving Orion for macOS and iOS. The company noted that building a cross-platform browser is a significant undertaking for an independent entity not backed by venture capital. While the Linux beta will remain functional, Kagi will no longer provide core maintenance or updates, advising users against using the Linux version as a primary browser until a community-led solution is established. The planned Windows launch for late 2026 has also been canceled.
