Kagiso Rabada resumes bowling during injury rehabilitation

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has resumed bowling during his rehabilitation from a right hamstring injury. Footage from a light training session shows the 31-year-old delivering at a controlled pace, marking a significant step in his recovery process.

The injury, sustained during training, previously ruled Rabada out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia starting September 24 in Durban. While his return to bowling is a positive sign, his availability for the subsequent three Test matches remains uncertain. Cricket South Africa stated that a decision regarding his participation in the Test series will be made closer to the start date, depending on his continued progress.

Lions bowling coach Allan Donald indicated the injury could potentially sideline Rabada for up to 10 weeks, making his readiness for the first Test at Kingsmead on October 9 a race against time. Rabada is a vital component of the Proteas bowling attack, holding 340 Test wickets and having played a decisive role in South Africa’s 2025 World Test Championship victory.
