Kagoshima Prefecture promotes Oshima Tsumugi tourism and Amami Oshima travel

Kagoshima Prefecture is launching initiatives to promote local culture and tourism. A specialized monitor tour titled “Manga Artist Akiko Higashimura Talk Show & Oshima Tsumugi Learning Trip” will be held from February 26 to 28, 2027. The program, limited to 25 participants, includes a talk show and dinner with manga artist Akiko Higashimura at the Shiroyama Hotel Kagoshima, alongside visits to manufacturing sites to experience the production and plant-dyeing processes of Oshima Tsumugi silk.

Additionally, Amami Oshima is highlighted as a destination for solo travelers seeking nature and relaxation. Key attractions include the transparent waters of Jikyu Coast, the subtropical flora of the Kinsakubara Primeval Forest, and panoramic views from Ayamaru Misaki Cape. Travelers can engage in activities such as snorkeling, mangrove canoeing, and traditional mud dyeing, with rental cars and guided tours recommended for navigating the island.
