Kahramanmaraş features diverse industrial, water, and cultural assets
Kahramanmaraş is establishing itself as a significant player in Turkey's technology and industrial landscape. According to Ministry of Industry and Technology data, the city hosts an active technology development zone, contributing to a national network of 115 announced technoparks. These zones aim to convert scientific knowledge into economic value through collaboration between academia and industry.
The region also possesses substantial water resources, managed through eight major dams including the Menzelet and Kartalkaya facilities. The Menzelet Dam on the Ceyhan River provides significant hydroelectric power, while the Kartalkaya Dam serves as a strategic water source for both Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep.
Culturally, the city is recognized for its unique culinary traditions, such as EU-registered Firik and its world-famous mastic ice cream. Despite facing economic challenges and infrastructure needs following recent seismic activity, local industrial leaders report resilience in maintaining production and managing the transition to new residential areas.
