Kahramanmaraş Mayor commemorates Sütçü İmam’s first shot

Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fırat Görgel issued a commemorative message marking the 107th anniversary of the first shot fired by Sütçü İmam. On October 31, 1919, Sütçü İmam fired the first shot against occupying French soldiers, an event regarded as a spark for the Turkish National Struggle in the region.

Görgel described the act as a symbol of the nation’s will for independence and a declaration that the people would never accept captivity. He emphasized that the resistance ignited by this event spread throughout the city, evolving into a saga of liberation through the collective struggle of the ancestors.
