Kahramanmaraş sees minor quake as historic district repairs remain stalled

A magnitude‑3.7 earthquake struck the Göksun district of Kahramanmaraş province on 5 August at 04:01 local time, with a focal depth of about 7 km. The tremor caused brief panic but, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), there were no casualties, injuries or reported structural damage.

More than a year after the devastating 6 February earthquakes that killed over 53,000 people across the region, residents of the historic Ekmekçi neighbourhood in Dulkadiroğlu district say that more than ten listed Ottoman‑era houses and traditional Maraş homes still await restoration. Local officials and citizens have called for urgent repairs, citing safety hazards and the need to revive the area’s cultural heritage.
