Kahramanmaraş highlights cultural heritage and sustainability
Kahramanmaraş is experiencing a diverse range of cultural and environmental developments. The city's historical educational legacy is being preserved through Kahramanmaraş Anadolu Lisesi, an institution with a 110-year history that has survived various name changes and the devastating February 2023 earthquakes.
In the agricultural sector, the Bertiz region is celebrating its traditional grape harvest. The Maraş Bertiz Kabarcık Grape, which holds a geographical indication, remains central to local culinary traditions, including the production of molasses and traditional grape juices.
Environmental efforts are also underway with the Zero Waste Workshop hosted by Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. The event brought together various stakeholders to discuss resource management, climate change resilience, and waste reduction strategies for the region.
Additionally, the city's traditional handicrafts, such as saddlery and felt-making, are struggling to survive against industrialization, while local artist Ersel Darıcı has successfully turned the hobby of glass cracking into a professional craft, creating intricate portraits on glass.
