KAI develops Karet–Sudirman Baru station area facilities
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is progressing with the redevelopment of the Karet and Sudirman Baru station areas in Jakarta. Following the diversion of KRL services from Karet Station to Sudirman Baru on September 1, 2026, construction has moved into the installation of steel structures and the completion of several sub-structures.
The project aims to improve passenger mobility and access to connecting transportation. Planned facilities include a 20-meter flat travelator, two vertical travelators, escalators, pedestrian corridors, landscaping, passenger drop-off areas, and canopy walkways. The redevelopment is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026.
Passenger activity data shows that Sudirman Baru saw a significant increase in gate activity following the service diversion, recording 646,411 entries and exits in September 2026, up from 190,060 in August 2026.
