KAI Divre I Sumatera Utara reports 45% growth in freight transport

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divre I Sumatera Utara reported a significant increase in freight transport performance during the third quarter of 2026. The division handled 238,334 tons of goods, representing a 45 percent growth compared to the 164,800 tons recorded in the third quarter of 2025.

This growth in rail-based logistics aligns with the regional economic expansion in North Sumatra, which saw a year-on-year growth of 5.06 percent in the second quarter of 2026. Additionally, North Sumatra's export value reached US$7.933 billion from January to July 2026, a 12.48 percent increase from the previous year.

From January to September 2026, KAI Divre I Sumatera Utara cumulatively transported 625,886 tons of goods, a 20 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
