KAI implements safety measures at railway level crossings
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is taking measures to enhance safety at level crossings across different regions. In Cirebon, KAI Daop 3 has closed an illegal crossing located at JPL KM 247+3-4 in the Sindanglaut – Ciledug section, Jatirenggang Village. The crossing, which was less than two meters wide and lacked safety signage or guards, was identified as a significant accident risk for both train operations and road users.
In West Sumatra, KAI Divre II clarified the legal responsibilities regarding road maintenance at level crossings. According to Ministry of Transportation Regulation No. PM 94 of 2018, the authority to repair road damage at these intersections lies with the road administrator based on the road's status (national, provincial, or district/city). KAI is only responsible for repairs if the damage is directly caused by railway construction or maintenance work. Despite this, the company continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to address safety concerns at these intersection points.
